Colorful bounty at Davis Farmers Market
With friends visiting, my focus has been away from our garden. We spent four days in California’s Eastern Sierra (post coming up) and have been doing things around town that we aren’t doing as much as we should. This includes going to the Davis Farmers Market, rated the #9 farmers market in the country by USA Today.
Held every Wednesday afternoon and Saturday morning, it’s a great opportunity to buy fresh fruits, vegetables and other products, including baked goods, cheeses, jams, juices, oils, etc. This time I took my camera along to capture the colorful cornucopia.
The photos below aren’t in any particular order, but they are bursting with colors and textures. It was a vivid reminder of how lucky we are to have such an incredible array of produce to select from.
Loquats
Zucchini blossoms
Clearly not a factory farm!
Tomatillos
And a few plants especially for the Fourth of July:
Happy Independence Day to everybody in the U.S.!
I love taking photos at the farmers market! These are great Gerhard, all so festive looking. I will be in Davis next Sat to see Cyrano de Bergerac at Davis Shakespeare Festival, and will absolutely leave home a little early so I can check out the farmers market before the show.
ReplyDeleteI'm loving the colours! And it's made me positively hungry now too!!
ReplyDeleteYum! I love farmer's markets. We're lucky to have several nearby, albeit none which have spurred regular patronage on our parts. When I was in grad school, I used to visit the Santa Monica market (also on the top 10 list) on a semi-regular basis but that's all but a distant memory now.
ReplyDeleteOkay now I'm hungry...and determined to get to the market next week.
ReplyDeleteThat's a lovely way to celebrate the 4th, with the beauty of our family farms. :)
ReplyDeleteA feast for the eyes!
