Heads up: Sacramento Cactus & Succulent Society Show & Sale this weekend, May 7-8, 2016
What are you doing this coming weekend, May 7 and 8? If you’re in Sacramento or are up for the drive, join us for the Sacramento Cactus & Succulent Society’s Show & Sale at Shepard Garden and Arts Center adjacent to McKinley Park. This will be the club’s 56th show, and it promises to be a another great one.
Sunday is Mother’s Day so why not bring your mother—or the mother of your children, or the mother of your pets—to the Show & Sale and let her pick out her own present?
Many SCSS members enter their prized succulents in the juried show. The general public will get a broad overview of the myriad different plants that fall in the “succulent” category while hardcore fanatics and collectors will have a chance to gaze with envy and longing upon rare and usual specimens. Here are some photos I took last year.
The highlight for many visitors is the vendor area in the outside courtyard. This year’s vendors include the following:
Plant vendors:
- Sacramento Cactus & Succulent Society
- Naomi Bloss
- Bill & Karla Munkascsy (Planta Seca)
- Elton Roberts
- Richard Withers
- Peter Walkowiak
- Stanley Verkler
- David Calibo (Gardeners Home Corp.)
- Gary & Ellen Stubblefield
- Gardeners Home
- JD Wikert
Pottery vendors:
- Connie Esquibel
- Donna Taylor
- Mark Muradian
To whet your appetite, here are some photos of the vendor area from 2015:

Sacramento is only 1½ hours from San Francisco, 1 hour from Oakland/Berkeley/East Bay, and 2 hours from San Jose.
I’ll be there on and off all weekend. Look for me wearing an SCSS name badge.
I can't help but be impressed by your show and its setting, Gerhard. In addition to much larger sale selection, it has much better lighting than our local show. I haven't posted photos of our early April show yet but hope to get to it within the next couple of days.
ReplyDeleteWe're lucky that we have the city-owned Shepard Garden and Art Center. It's getting on in years, but it's a good space for our club and many others.
DeleteYou're so lucky to have such a show with so many great plants. Love the head planters! Happy shopping, Gerhard!
ReplyDeleteLooks of cool planters this year. And Mark Muradian is there after all. I love his pottery. I already did my preliminary shopping today. I'll take photos of the vendor area and the show tomorrow.
DeleteReally nice looking show and sale. Should be a fun weekend!
