Wednesday Vignette: en route to Thanksgiving
Like many of you, we’re traveling to spend Thanksgiving with family. Today, while my wife was driving, I took pictures of the clouds that seemed to be following us. My favorite was this cloud that looked like a very large bird:
Look, a bird cloud!
After we left Redding behind and started to climb, the sky began to get more menacing.
Just a little while cloud left
Just south of Mount Shasta we encountered the first flurries of snow.
Black Butte (6,334 ft.)
As I was snapping this photo near my mother-in-law’s house, the flakes were getting bigger.
Old barn, Mount Shasta
Maybe there’ll be snow on the ground tomorrow morning. That would be one more thing to be thankful for in year four of the drought. We need snow in the mountains to refill the lakes and reservoirs come spring.
On that note, Happy Thanksgiving to all of you!
What beauty!
ReplyDeleteHappy Thanksgiving to you and your family.
Thank you, Hoov. Happy Thanksgiving to your family as well, human and canine!
DeleteBeautiful clouds, and beautiful photos. (Bird cloud, whoa...) That wonderful barn is really triggering my Old West love -- what a fabulous shot!
ReplyDeleteWishing you and yours a great Thanksgiving, and a nice drive home!
I love old barns. Don't know why, but probably because they're such an iconic part of the Old West.
DeleteI'm with Luisa - that barn shot is magical, as is the bird cloud. What beautiful scenery - would love to drive through California some day. Happy Thanksgiving to you and yours, Gerhard!
ReplyDeleteCalifornia is incredible diverse--just like Oregon. I love road trips because you never know what you might find.
DeleteMy initial thought upon seeing the first cloud shot was that it looked like a hand reaching out to grab another cloud between thumb and forefinger, although I saw the bird as soon as I read your text. Beautiful country. Have a wonderful Thanksgiving!
ReplyDeleteYou know what I thought of first? The US Postal Service logo. What does that say about my psyche, LOL?
DeleteI always enjoy the drive between Dunsmuir and the border-it's beautiful in every season. Wishing you an enjoyable holiday Gerhard !
ReplyDeleteI agree! It's such a scenic drive. First the mountains with trees everywhere, then the high desert with wide open views. I love it!
